Welcome to Brandy's Bustlings and B(e) Kind 366. I'm B (short for Brandy) and in 2016 I'm performing an act of kindness (random or not) every day of this year. I'm also taking on monthly challenges and offering monthly incentives to the lovely people who donate to my project. I'm raising funds for three organizations that have touched my life: World University Service of Canada, The Women's Resource Centre, and the Canadian Cancer Society. I hope you'll join me in your own unique way!

A-Z: B is for Broke
In the words of Fergie, "If you ain't got no money take your broke ass home!" or in my case, "get your broke ass through Grad School."
My last post A is for Applications in the A-Z Challenge provides some insight into how hard I am trying to come up with enough funds to put me through twenty months of being an unemployed grad student. At this point, eight of my eleven applications have been for scholarships. If the list grows past eleven applications, the additions will no doubt be for more funding.
"Be prepared to live on a diet of Mr. Noodles," I've been told. I do like Mr. Noodles, so that wouldn't be too terrible, not overly nutritious mind you.
Tuition fees at the University of New Brunswick and living expenses in Fredericton aren't overly grand so that is helpful. I also won't be taking a vehicle with me so that will save me some money. I am, in fact, getting a pretty decent funding package from UNB, but if I don't get any additional scholarships, I will indeed be a broke ass grad student and to that, I say, "No Thanks!"
Home in Manitoba will be approximately 3500 km from home in New Brunswick which is anywhere from $700 to $1000 for a round trip flight. I've been paying attention to Air Miles collection opportunities (I bought five jumbo boxes of cereal in mid-February so that I could collect 100 Air Miles and I will have you know that at the beginning of April, I only have one box left. I love me some cereal...maybe I can live on cereal in Grad School).
I won't have time to work because I will be reading ALL OF THE TIME and I don't want to be a broke ass, so I hope that you all will join me in begging the scholarship fairies to smile on me!
If anyone has any money-earning ideas, toss 'em at me! Too bad, I couldn't make money blogging...
Up next: C is for Countdown - days, hours, minutes, seconds, I'll have it all on tomorrow's blog!

Thanks for stopping by my blog (aliciaafter30.blogspot.com). I hear that the broke students have far more memories than those who live well through grad school. No, seriously. The creativity has to flow without the cash and when that happens the fun times will begin!!
ReplyDelete"The creativity has to flow without the cash," I like it! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you on that one. I unfortunately used loans for my grad school education, and I pay the consequences for it. Sending good thoughts to the scholarship fairies to help you out.
